Test Specifications

Studying the test specifications, which include information about the skills eligible for testing in each section, is the first step in preparing for the CBEST. The test specifications are available on the CBEST website by selecting "Test Specifications."

Practice Test

The CBEST Computer-Administered Practice Test is available for download at the CBEST website by selecting "Practice Test." The practice test is available free of charge. The CBEST Computer-Administered Practice Test is an interactive computer program that contains practice test forms for the CBEST Reading, Mathematics, and Writing sections. The program includes a tutorial providing instructions on how to use and navigate through the practice test, a full-length practice test for each CBEST section, and scoring of the Reading and Mathematics sections. If you do not wish to or are not able to download this program, you can print a PDF of the practice test from the CBEST website.

Tutorials for Computer-Based Testing

CBT Tutorials. These tutorials can give you a sense of what you will see when you begin your test at a Pearson Professional Center. The tutorials are available by selecting "Tutorials for Computer-Based Testing" on the CBEST website.

Pearson Professional Centers Tour. The Pearson Professional Centers Tour gives candidates taking the CBEST on computer a virtual tour of a Pearson Professional Center. It includes a video and floorplan to help acquaint the candidate with the Pearson Professional Centers testing experience. Select "Tutorials for Computer-Based Testing" on the CBEST website to view this tour. As noted in the Pearson Professional Centers Tour, some testing programs require two forms of identification at check-in. To take a California educator credentialing examination, such as the CBEST, you will be asked to provide one form of identification. Refer to "What to Bring to the Test Center" for more information on proper identification.
